On the eve of Earth Day 2020, the Trump administration celebrated our home planet by ravaging the CleanWater Act, the core law that safeguards America’s waters from pollution.

“President Trump just removed protections for tributaries and wetlands in your community,” said Rose Marcario, president and CEO of Patagonia. “This comes after polluting your air, putting your public lands under threat and ignoring the climate crisis.” Enacted in 1972, the Clean Water Act was a bipartisan agreement to protect all “waters of the United States.”

Trump’s newly published Navigable Waters Protection Rule severely limits which waters are protected by the Act, putting at risk our wetlands, the headwaters and tributaries of our rivers, and critical habit for fish and wildlife. This shocking and careless trashing of clean water protections is the latest act of environmental sabotage by the Trump administration.
